Samsara takes Best Overall Film at Williamstown Film Festival

So as my role of supporter/girlfriend, it is my duty to tell the world about Renan's great accomplishments. So without further ado, this years 9th annual Williamstown Mountain Film Festival award for Best Overall Film goes to....(drum roll please) "SAMSARA"!!!
I am so proud of Renan for all blood, sweat, tears, and countless hours he put in to create such an amazing experience based film. Not to mention that this was his first film, which has won not one but two awards now (see earlier post). There aren't many films out there these days that are athlete produced, directed, and edited. Nor are there many that tell a story such as theirs, ultimately making "Samsara" special.
About two years ago Renan started making little films with bottom of the line camera's and only a laptop. He would watch tutorials 24 hrs a day to learn editing software programs and look for tips on how to be a better videographer. This quickly became on of his new passions, a new form of creative expression. He saw another way to convey to people, what it is like to be a climber, exploring unexplored wild places and pushing the limits of adventure. He started with short 2-3 minute dispatches that he would create in the field while on expeditions. He would then upload them to blogs so that his followers could be apart of the adventure as it happened, rather then a trip report written up months later in a magazine, or even a year later in an alpine journal. Of course now Renan has evolved into quite the film maker, he is extremely tech savvy and has lots of high end equipment to play with out there, but his goal remains the same. He is passionate about sharing his life with others, inspiring people to get outside, and to live in the moment as much as possible. He hopes to produce many more grass roots films for audinences world wide.
I can say that he inspires me everyday, and for that I am thankful. If you would like to check out the trailer for "Samsara" or any of his other works visit rockmonkeyart.com
